DURBAN – KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has vowed to increase raids and enforce strict regulations against spaza shops to clamp down on growing cases of chemical poisoning found in food cases. 

Addressing reporters, Ntuli says the provincial government will shut down illegal operations and return spaza shops to the hands of South Africans.

Meanwhile, a group representing informal traders has slammed the government for not doing enough to protect communities. 

The group wants the government to ensure that only South Africans operate spaza shops in the country.
