FAMILY and friends say final goodbyes to popular DJ.

The morning of Saturday, 4 January started with heavy sorrow when the family, friends, industry colleagues and fans of slain DJ Tsitso gathered at his home in Atteridgeville, Tshwane to say their final goodbyes.

The 37-year-old, whose real name is Daniel Rametsi Tladi, tragically passed away on 29 December 2024 after he was shot on the evening of 20 December 2024.

Tsitso, who was also a producer, was known for popularising bacardi music.

A family representative said Tsitso was adventurous, but was still human.

“He was determined to succeeded at all cost. He definitely worked hard to make sure his life is good and not just for himself but his family, friends and even enemies benefited from that,” he said.

A neighbour shared words of comfort with the family.

“You are not the only ones who have lost. We also lost. Mama, you raised a soldier and he tried with many things to show that he appreciated what you have done for him. This is not a pain felt only by the family, we are all feeling it,” she said.

His friend said Tsitso always had complaints.

“He would ask me to fix problems in the streets but we all loved each other. He did whatever he did in life so he could sustain himself, but at the end of the day, he had love in his heart,” he said.

He said Tsitso had T-shirt with a picture of Jesus Christ on his last days. “When we asked him why he was wearing that, he said he was a changed man and only had peace,” he said.

Tsitso’s events project manager, Kgothatso Mashiane said it was heartbreaking to speak about him.

“Tsitso was always dreaming about making each event a success whether there was a budget or not. During the pandemic, we thought it would be the end of our events but Tsitso made a plan and secured venues.

“Through these events he became more than a business partner, he became a friend and a brother. Working with him was a journey like no other. I understood he had an expensive taste because even though we would call him ugly, he was a neat man who took good care of himself,” she said.

She added that Tsitso was stubborn. “That attitude showed how much he valued his relationships. He left too soon because we had a lot of plans,” she said.

Tsitso’s obituary stated that he was tempted into unsavoury activities his family were not proud of, but his music career saved him.

However, the programme director and former ward councillor, Thabang Magodielo said people mustn’t judge Tsitso for the life he lived.

“It is said that Tsitso was now becoming a man of peace. It’s not that he didn’t know what he was doing. He was a father and I’m sure he wouldn’t want his kids to grow up the same way. Their father was a hustler, he was a fighter and he wanted to stop the hardships he saw in the township,” he said.

Rapper, 25k said he and Tsitso grew up together and he was his mentor.

“He always brought a vibe, he was a jolly person and you wouldn’t even see it when he had problems. I am heartbroken.

“As people we are not perfect and even I am a testimony. By God’s grace I had to change my life by expressing myself through music,” he said.

He added that many people learned a lot from Tsitso.

“He helped us a lot to a point that he would share his vision for our brand, uplift us and share ideas,” he said.

A message from Tsitso’s grandmother was read: “My son, I raised you struggling and you grew up giving me a headache, but I thank you. The support I saw is amazing. Thank you because I saw that you not only did things for us but also for other people. I will always remember you my son and don’t turn your back on me.”

A message from his wife: “I can write a lot about us, but today I chose to tell you how much I love you. Thank you for loving our kids wholeheartedly. I remember when you told me you will marry me. I was proud to be your wife. You left a big scar in our hearts.”
