The tragic incident occurred while Joburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers were attempting to manage the tense situation. One community member, who wished to remain anonymous, shared the heartbreaking story of her elder sister’s death. “I found my sister lying on the ground. I was told she had been run over by a car. I immediately called an ambulance, and we rushed her to hospital, but she passed away in the ambulance. Doctors said she died from internal bleeding and a leg injury,” she recalled. She further described her agony when she first arrived at the scene. “When I got there, my sister called out my name. She told me she couldn’t breathe and was in a lot of pain. The tragic incident occurred while Joburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers were attempting to manage the tense situation.

One community member, who wished to remain anonymous, shared the heartbreaking story of her elder sister’s death.

“I found my sister lying on the ground. I was told she had been run over by a car. I immediately called an ambulance, and we rushed her to hospital, but she passed away in the ambulance. Doctors said she died from internal bleeding and a leg injury,” she recalled.

She further described her agony when she first arrived at the scene.

“When I got there, my sister called out my name. She told me she couldn’t breathe and was in a lot of pain. I grabbed a box and tried to create some airflow to help her,” she said.

Wata chairman Hamilton Miya confirmed to Daily Sun one of the victims was a member of the association and a taxi owner.

“Early in the morning, when Ellias Motsoaledi Road was blocked, a JMPD vehicle arrived and collided with another car, causing officers to crash into pedestrians on the side of the road. Officers had their sirens and lights on at the time,” said Miya.

It’s deeply tragic that one of our members lost his life in this way. He passed away at the scene.” JMPD spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihla confirmed the fatal accident. “JMPD officers were responding to a report that taxi associations had blocked off the road in Mofolo Central. Unfortunately, as they arrived at the scene, their vehicle collided with another car.” Fihla explained that the crash occurred when a car disregarded a stop sign, causing a collision with the JMPD vehicle, which then struck three pedestrians standing nearby. “Sadly, two of the pedestrians died, one at the scene and the other in hospital,” said Fihla. JMPD spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihla confirmed the fatal accident.

“JMPD officers were responding to a report that taxi associations had blocked off the road in Mofolo Central. Unfortunately, as they arrived at the scene, their vehicle collided with another car.”

Fihla explained that the crash occurred when a car disregarded a stop sign, causing a collision with the JMPD vehicle, which then struck three pedestrians standing nearby.

“Sadly, two of the pedestrians died, one at the scene and the other in hospital,” said Fihla.

He said seven individuals were involved in the accident, including two JMPD officers, two occupants from the other vehicle, and the two pedestrians.

“While we have yet to receive any reports of violence, our officers who monitor the area reported that the road was blocked when they passed through Machaba Drive towards Makgetha Store, and just a couple of minutes later, they found the road obstructed,” he said.
