DIFFERENT Diturupa troops brought the community of Hammanskraal in Tshwane into a standstill on Saturday, 28 December 2024.
More than eight Diturupa troops from around Hammanskraal took turns to entertain the community, especially young people in Temba, Hammanskraal in Tshwane.
According to the organiser of the annual cultural festival, it’s a way of giving back to the community. The young people said that they’re proud to bring young people into one place, including the elders. They said that the troop is part of their lives and are nurturing other young people to be part of such an exciting and learning experience event.

— Aaron Dube (@AronDube) December 28, 2024He said that it’s a way of saying thank you to the community for the continuous support. Njabulo Mahlangu (20), the leader of the Swat Level 5 troop in Hammanskraal, said that they come together every December to entertain people for free.
“We are different troops from Hammanskraal who meet to entertain people for free. We want to see it growing and attracting more troops. This is a way of showcasing our talent to the community,” he said.

He further said that this is their fourth year, and the community continues to encourage us.”This is taking away kids from the streets and keep them away from drugs, teenage pregnancy, and crime,” he said.
However, Njabulo is looking for sponsorship so that the troops can compete for medals in future.

Lebogang Kekana (32), leader of Moldern Gold troop, said: “We are happy. We are making young people unite through dance and performances.”
Xolani Khoza (15), the leader of Royal Masters, said: “This is a good event. We are teaching each other performance and dance.”
Resident Thandi Dlamini said that the troops keep kids away from the streets. “Im keeping these kids busy, and I have my own group in Thembisa called Vukuzenzele troop. I’m here to teach them how it is done,” she said.
Some residents said that they enjoy the troops’ unique dances, adding that they’re grateful to the groups for organising such an event.
