VILLAGERS are reeling in shock.

This after a missing gogo was found dead.

Gogo Mamohlao Shai (86) from Ga-Sekgopo Village outside Modjadjiskloof in Limpopo was last seen on Thursday morning, 7 November.

She was reported missing, and a search operation was conducted at places she frequented, without success.

Villagers escalated the search and went on a door-to-door search on Wednesday, 14 November. This is when they made a horrific find of gogo Mamohlao’s body.

A week later, her body was found by a villager in the bushes near a stream in the village. The discovery has left villagers with questions as gogo Shai’s body was found with no visible injuries.

Gogo Mamohlao’s granddaughter, Legricia (25), said they’ve been looking for her since she went missing.

Lost for words after the discovery, Legricia said: “I’ve lost a friend. Rest in peace, gogo.”

The body of gogo Mamohlao Shai was found in the bushes next to a stream on Wednesday, 13 November, after she went missing a week ago.

Villagers are asking themselves as to how her body ended up in the bushes.

“Something fishy is going on here. There’s no way an elderly person could end up in the bushes after missing for a week. Police must investigate deeper because we now fear for the lives of our gogos and madalas,” said a villager (38).

Community leader Prince Marutha said: “It’s with great sorrow to inform the public that we’ve managed to find gogo Shai’s body.”

A villager and community policing forum (CPF) member, Sipho Moagi, urged villagers to immediately report missing family members.

“What’s happened is unfortunate and heartbreaking. We wish the Shai family strength during this difficult time. It’s painful to lose a family member in this manner. We hope the police will find out what really happened,” Sipho said.

Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said an inquest docket has been opened following the discovery of a of a gogo in the bushes, next to a stream on Wednesday, 13 November.

“Her body was positively identified by a relative. The cause of death is still unknown at this stage as the victim had no visible wounds. A postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death while investigations are continuing,” Ledwaba said.
