SKEEM Saam actress Amanda Manku’s uncle reveals heartbreaking details in court.
During cross-examination in the Polokwane High Court in Limpopo on Tuesday, 11 February, he said he witnessed the tragic moment when Amanda’s mum was allegedly shot three times.
This revelation came to light as part of the ongoing trial regarding the murders of Amanda’s mum Gladys Manku and grandmother Lettie Maphothoma, who were both brutally killed on May 4, 2021.
Last January, William Manku and his co-accused David Khoza were arrested in connection with the double murder. Both men have been remanded in custody since their arrest. The trial is set to conclude on 21 February.
Amanda’s uncle said he was with his mum and sister to fetch water on the day of the incident.

“Our brother called us and mentioned there were people who said they were there to fix a wheelbarrow,” he said.
He said his mum and sister called his other sister to tell her about the people.
“My sister said she wasn’t aware of the people and that they should come back the following day because it was late at night,” he said.
He said another call came in and he answered it.
“It was my brother-in-law, and he asked me to give the phone to my sister. I don’t know what they spoke about after that.”
He said after they were done, they saw an unfamiliar car in the street.
“The vehicle puzzled my mum and sister because it had a Mpumalanga registration, and they asked themselves what it was doing there at night. On our way, they were still talking about the car and suggested blowing the whistle to alert the community about the unknown car and what it wanted,” he said.
He said as they headed home, they met two people on the road.
“The people didn’t say anything. They just took out guns, pointed them at us and prepared them for shooting. The other one shot my mum in her leg. This person fired the second shot at her chest. My sister ran away and the other man chased after her,” he said.

He said when they fired the third shot towards his mum, he ran away towards home.
“When I got home, I asked my sibling to lend me their phone. I called my other sister to inform the family that people are shooting at my mum and sister.”
He said his sister suggested dropping the call to make a call to her uncle for what to do next.
“When he got there, he said he only saw my mum lying in the street, and my sister wasn’t there. But after searching, we found her far away in the bushes under a tree,” he said.
