MATRIC pupils still stuck after exam cheating allegations.

The pupils from Baphutheng Secondary School in Solomondale, Limpopo, can’t move forward because of cheating claims on their 2024 exams.

These allegations are making it difficult for them to register with higher learning institutions. Despite their frustration, these students strongly assert their innocence.

“Our results show incomplete statements. The Business Studies subject is withheld because we are suspected of cheating during the exam,” shared one pupil.

They believe the investigation stems from a study method called the “singing technique,” which helped them memorise answers.

“We used it all year, and our answers often matched, but we didn’t copy,” they explained.

Another pupil expressed frustration, “We don’t mind the department’s investigation, but we need them to speed up the process. We’re falling behind while peers gain university acceptances. We can prove our innocence!”

Many of these students come from underprivileged backgrounds, relying on their matric results for a brighter future.

Department of Basic Education Spokesman Elijah Mhlanga said: “If pupils are not found guilty, they will receive their results. We’re investigating several schools for suspected irregularities during exams. Umalusi requires us to block results until investigations are complete. If found guilty, they face punishment, but innocence will clear them.”
