Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has condemned two incidents in which two bodies of a couple were discovered while another mutilated body of a 40-year-old male was also found.

VILLAGERS left in shock and disbelief following the gruesome discovery of two deceased bodies in a house.

The horrific find was made on Sunday, 29 December, at Northam in the Waterberg District, Limpopo.

The two individuals, a 33-year-old South African man and a 24-year-old woman from Lesotho, were last seen on Christmas Day, 25 December, around 11.45pm at a local tavern.

They’re believed to have been in a relationship and stayed together.

Limpopo police spokesman, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said, according to information at their disposal, the woman was found lying on the bed and the man hanging from the rafters.

“Their bodies were already in an advanced state of decomposition. Motive behind the shocking incident is unknown at this stage, although a domestic-related dispute can’t be ruled out,” Ledwaba said.

He said police have opened murder and inquest dockets.

“The identity of the deceased will be made public in due course, and police investigations are continuing.”

Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the incident.

“We urge people in romantic relationships to seek professional help when they experience relationship challenges,” Hadebe said.

The incident has left villagers, especially women, in fear as some believe the man killed the woman before committing suicide.

“The incident is regrettable and painful. We encourage couples to seek help when they encounter problems rather than resorting to killing. Now, we’ll never know what really happened,” said a resident (36).

The incident takes place as police have already launched a manhunt for suspects after a mutilated body of a 40-year-old male was found in the bushes at Mamaila Village outside Modjadjiskloof on Friday, 27 December.

This comes after police were called to a complaint of murder in the village as villagers found a dead body of a male in the bushes.

Limpopo police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Stephen Thakeng, said police discovered that the victim’s throat was cut.

“His little finger and private parts were also removed. Emergency personnel were summoned to the scene and certified him dead,” Thakeng said.

Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and emphasised that police will leave no stone unturned in the case.

“Although motive for the murder is still unknown, ritual-related killing can’t be ruled out at this stage,” Hadebe said.
