A BODY of a man was found in the polluted Namahadi River near Clubview in QwaQwa, Free State on Sunday, 8 December.

The victim, Lefu Maduna (36), was reportedly walking with a friend from Botjhabela Village on Saturday night when he fell from a dilapidated bridge and drowned.

His dad, Lemon Maduna, identified him at the scene and was visibly emotional about the tragic loss.

“This is heartbreaking to see my son being retrieved from the river. I expected a lot from him. We were informed by his friend that they were drunk and heading to Clubview when my son fell from the bridge.

“We’re grateful that his friend informed us. In many cases, friends disappear in a tragedy. He showed real friendship and ubuntu,” said Lemon.

Provincial police spokesman Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said that an inquest docket has been opened at the Phuthaditjhaba cop shop for further investigation.

The lifeless body of Lefu Madona was retrieved in the polluted river.
