THERE’S no running away from cops.

This was a lesson learnt by an undocumented foreigner when he saw cops, Community Police Forum (CPF) members and amaPanyaza at a roadblock in Eden Park, Ekurhuleni during Operation Shanela on Thursday, 19 December.

When cops called him to be searched, the undocumented foreigner ran for his dear life in an attempt to avoid being arrested. But he didn’t get too far before he was caught by the CPF.

The man even tried tricks and pretended to faint, but the CPF members didn’t buy his tricks. They carried him and he was loaded into a police van.

The operation, which involved various law enforcement agencies and was led by Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major-General Anna Sithole, aimed to reduce crime in hotspot areas across the Ekurhuleni district.

“As a district, we realise that Eden Park has issues with crimes such as murder, assault common, robberies, car hijackings as well as business robberies.

“We decided that we must help the station commander bring their forces from the district and other stations so that we can be visible and help the station fight crime during this festive season,” said Sithole.

She said the operation started during the week and involved crime intelligence and working on addresses they were given by the community in terms of drugs.

“Eden Park is one of the areas that has a challenge in relation to drug abuse and therefore we started the operation during the week and two suspects were arrested for possession of drugs,” said Sithole.
