Sergeant Thabelo Sigida has shown dedication after arresting a mum who allegedly dumped a newborn baby.
POLICE sergeant goes above and beyond to help a baby.
This after a newborn baby boy was found abandoned in a plastic bag along a road in Masheleni area near Xigalo Village, Limpopo on Saturday, 7 December.
The child was discovered by a resident, who immediately called the police. The baby, who was in critical need of medical care, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, while efforts to locate the mother continued.
Limpopo police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Sergeant Thabelo Sigida, who was on duty at the time, showed remarkable dedication and care.
“Despite completing her shift, she refused to rest until she had taken action.
“She visited the hospital regularly, provided clothing for the child and even gave the baby a name, Thabelo Sigida as an expression of her deep compassion,” said Ledwaba.
Ledwaba said Sigida, who is stationed at Malamulele cop shop, worked tirelessly for more than 29 days to uncover the identity of the mum.
“She even conducted investigations while off duty. Despite numerous challenges, her commitment never wavered. Her efforts were instrumental in finally locating an informant who provided critical information about the whereabouts of the mother.
“She immediately acted on this lead, using police resources and collaborating with Detective Services members to apprehend the suspect,” said Ledwaba.
