There will be no trucks going through Mozambique from Mzansi.
This after the processing of trucks going through Mozambique was halted after chaos erupted in the country following the announcement of the outcome of results on Monday, 23 December.
The unrest erupted following the announcement that Frelimo won the 2024 elections.
Angry locals have been burning objects in response to the news.
Dr Michael Masiapato, the Border Management Authority Commissioner, explained that the corridor on the Mozambican side is not stable, prompting the suspension of truck processing.
“Operations are suspended when there’s disruption at the Ressano Garcia side. While the situation there isn’t currently threatening to people, cargo, especially mineral cargo, is at risk,” Masiapato said.

The commissioner noted that over 10 000 people have been processed since the announcement, with activities continuing overnight.
“We’ve processed about a hundred trucks, mainly general cargo. The threat mainly concerns mineral goods,” he added.
Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu visited the border on Tuesday, 24 December, to assess the situation.
He reported that operations are smooth, with no congestion, but urged leisure travelers to avoid Mozambique for now.
