Police are investigating after a body of an unknown person was found burnt.
RESIDENTS of Delft in Cape Town were shocked after a charred body of a man was found behind a fruit and veggie container.
The body was discovered early on Monday morning, 30 December.
Abahlali suspect the person was burnt overnight, as smoke was still coming from behind the container. A taxi driver discovered the body at about 7am.
A local resident expressed shock over the incident, saying they heard no noise during the night, leading them to suspect the person was dumped and burnt there.
“If he was killed here, we would have heard some noises at night, but it was quiet and peaceful. We are shocked by these developments. We’re still wondering what could have happened,” she said.
Delft community police forum spokesman, Jacky Ockhuizen, said they informed the cops as soon as they became aware of the incident on Monday morning.

Ockhuizen said they’re unaware of the exact details, but the police are investigating.
“Our understanding is that the body of a male person was found by a taxi driver who noticed smoke from behind a fruit and veg container stall. Upon investigation, they found a male had been set alight and burnt during the night,” said Ockhuizen.
Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that a murder case has been opened.
“Delft police registered a murder case after the body of an unidentified male believed to be in his twenties was found in TRA5, Delft, between containers early Monday morning, 30 December 2024.
“Police were called to the crime scene where they found the victim burnt beyond recognition. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, and no arrests have been made,” said Twigg.
