Residents are looking for the mum or relatives of this toddler.
A TODDLER was heartlessly abandoned in an open field on Tuesday, 4 February, near Daveyton in Ekurhuleni.
Residents, alerted by the child’s hysterical cries, found her crawling away, with no sign of her mum. Next to her was a bag of clothes.
The compassionate residents rescued the toddler and swiftly made her comfortable.
“The child was clean and seemed well taken care of. We wonder what could have led the mother to abandon her, especially when she was bitten by ants,” said a concerned resident.

Another resident said: “What she did was cruel. She must be arrested and explain why she did such a thing.”
Community leader Jane Magagula said that they searched for the mum but with no luck.
“The child was found in the open space near Esihlahleni in extension 6, Daveyton. We appeal to anyone who might have seen the woman walking with a child in that area to help with information,” she said.
The police were notified and took the child to social workers.
Ekurhuleni district police spokeswoman Captain Neldah Sekgobela said that a case of child negligence has been opened, and the cops are searching for the mum.
