Ashwin Mouwers, who was set to testify in a murder case, was shot dead outside Lenasia Magistrates Court.
IT has been determined that Ashwin Mouwers is the murder case witness who was murdered on Tuesday morning outside the Lenasia Magistrates Court, south of Joburg, on Tuesday, 21 January.
Mouwers, from Eldorado Park, was expected to testify alongside another witness in connection with a murder committed in Eldorado Park in 2021.
According to Gauteng Police Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, Mouwers and another witness were smoking outside the Lenasia Magistrates Court when two suspects unexpectedly showed up and started shooting at them.

Masondo said Mouwers tripped and fell while attempting to avoid the bullets.
“The two suspects approached Mouwers, shooting him multiple times at close range, then the suspects left the area,” he said.
Mouwers and the other witness, who was unharmed, were scheduled to testify on Tuesday in a murder case from 2021 at Eldorado Park.
“The accused against whom Mouwers was scheduled to testify is being investigated by police as part of the murder probe,” said Masondo.
It is known that following the incident, the accused’s cell phone was confiscated for investigative purposes.
“Since there is a chance that the accused and the two suspects who killed Ashwin communicated, we are currently looking into him,” said Masondo.
