POLITICAL parties congratulate the Class of 2024.

The parties have joined the nation in congratulating the matric Class of 2024 for their record-breaking pass rate.

The pupils received their results on Tuesday, 14 January, with the majority getting bachelor passes.

The matric pass rate is the highest in the history of Mzansi at 87,3%, increasing from 82,9% in 2023.

ActionSA said that this year’s results are a testament to the hard work, determination and resilience of pupils and teachers across the country.

ActionSA KZN chairman Zwakele Mncwango said in particular they celebrate KZN for achieving an impressive 89,5% pass rate, the second highest in the nation.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, will lead the provincial release of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results for the Class of 2024.

— EDTEA KZN (@edtea_kzn) January 14, 2025“This marks a significant improvement of 3,1% from 2023 and a remarkable 6,5% increase from 2022. The province has further distinguished itself by producing the highest number of bachelor passes and the most distinctions nationwide.

“These achievements would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of KZN’s teachers. Once again, our teachers have demonstrated their commitment to empowering our youth and preparing them for a bright and prosperous future,” said Mncwango.

African Transformation Movement (ATM) spokesman Zama Ntshona echoed the same sentiments, stating that this achievement is a testament to hard work and dedication.

“While we celebrate this moment, it’s also an opportune time to reflect on the broader issues facing South Africa’s education system.

“The ATM firmly believes that urgent educational reform is needed to address systemic challenges and ensure that no child is left behind,” said Ntshona.

He said those who may not have achieved the results they hoped for should remember that this is not the end and that there are still opportunities to rewrite their story and chart a successful path forward.

Freedom Front Plus (FF+) member of Parliament, Dr Wynand Boshoff said the remaining 12,7% may be one or two percent shy in one or two subjects and should write the supplementary exams and get their matric.

On the other hand, while congratulating the matric pupils, uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) also raised the issue of space being available at tertiary institutions to accommodate all the pupils.

Party spokesman Nhlamulo Ndhlela said the delayed release of matric results to mid-January disrupts tertiary applications and leaves students scrambling to plan their futures.

“This reflects a lack of foresight by the Department of Basic Education and further compounds the stress faced by pupils.

“Of the 800 000 pupils who wrote exams, only 200 000 will have space at tertiary level. This leaves over 600 000 pupils with no further education options, forcing many into a job market already burdened with the world’s highest youth unemployment rate,” he said.
