FAMILY of murdered woman speaks.

The family of Nontobeko Cele, who was brutally killed allegedly by her boyfriend, Sibusiso Lawrence Ntaka, has finally spoken out.

Sibusiso allegedly killed the 25-year-old Ntobeko in Umzinto, KZN on Tuesday, 17 December and posted his confession on social media. He was later found hanging from a tree on Wednesday, 18 December, not far from where Nontobeko was found dead.

Part of his confession claimed that Nontobeko dumped him as she was going to receive RAF payment.

However, Nontobeko’s family alleged she was in an abusive relationship.

Nontobeko’s sister, Khumbizile, said: “What was the point of killing her and posting her on Facebook? Why didn’t he resolve their challenges by including the families? Why did he decide to take her life?

“He has hit her with a car twice and she was still attending physiotherapy and now this? We are heartbroken and the worst part is that no one will give us answers because the killer decided to be a coward and kill himself,” she said.

Nontobeko’s close friend who asked not to be named said Sibusiso was a jealous lover.

“Initially, they loved each other and spent time together. The problem started last year when Sibusiso pointed a knife at her telling her that he will kill her. After that she broke up with him and took all belongings from his house and left a ring with a note on the bed.

“I advised her not to go back to him because he will kill her. He was jealous and it was easy for him to drive from Stanger to Umlazi if she didn’t answer her phone. He used to video call us several times when we went shopping to checking if there was a man walking with us,” claimed the friend.

The friend also alleged that Sibusiso hit Nontobeko with a car and his family apologised on his behalf and they ironed out their differences.

“They broke up and I think what he did to my friend was intentional,” said the friend.

Sibusiso’s father, Sipho said his son showed signs he was going to kill himself, but they never noticed until it was too late.

He said his son played Father Christmas on Tuesday, giving kids gifts and also gave his car away.

“The family thought Sibusiso broke up with Nontobeko. She was not his girlfriend, but she was his fiancee because lobola was paid and I’m the one who went to her home to pay it. It was only the wedding that didn’t happen.

“They had a fight that led my son to taking me to her home so they can formally break up in front of us,” he said.

Sipho said Sibusiso and his fiancee had many challenges, but he never opened up about it to them as he wasnt talkative.

“He told me some of the things and I forgave him because I loved my daughter in-law. He said he did not tell us about their challenges because he loved her, and he hoped they would resolve their problems.

“He was not violent. I last saw him on Monday, 16 December and he was okay. Maybe he was hiding something from me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has condemned the horrific gender-based violence and social media exploitation.

“This shocking incident is a grim reminder of the ongoing scourge of gender-based violence in our society. Such acts of violence are a betrayal of our humanity and have no place in our nation.

“Furthermore, the use of social media to amplify such cruelty is utterly unacceptable and reflects a disregard for basic decency and the dignity of others,” he said.
