RENOWNED singer-songwriter and dancer Makhadzi wants to continue promoting African culture and talent on a global scale.
The multi-award-winning Makhadzi has been nominated for Best Female Artist and Best Dancer of the Year at the 2025 Trace Awards, which will be held in Zanzibar on 26 February 2025.
Makhadzi, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, hails from Limpopo and is nominated alongside amapiano sensation and accomplished dancer Kamo Mphela.
The Queen of Venda, known for her electrifying performances, spoke to Daily Sun about her nominations, stating that she’s honored to be recognised.
“It feels absolutely amazing to be acknowledged in such significant categories. It reflects not only my hard work and dedication but also the support from my fans and team,” she said.
She expressed her gratitude and excitement to continue sharing her passion for music and dance with the world.
The 28-year-old said her choreography and dance routines are inspired by a mix of cultural heritage, personal experiences, and the vibrant energy of her surroundings.

“I draw inspiration from traditional South African dance styles, incorporating elements that resonate with my roots while also blending in contemporary influences. I always aim to create performances that evoke emotions and celebrate joy. Collaborating with talented dancers and choreographers also sparks new ideas, allowing me to push boundaries and keep my performances fresh and captivating,” she said.
Speaking about being a role model to young people, Makhadzi said knowing that her music and dance can inspire the next generation is truly rewarding.
“I strive to convey messages of empowerment, resilience, and self-expression through my art. It’s important to me that young people know that they can chase their dreams and achieve them, no matter the challenges they face,” she said.Â
Makhadzi, who won a BET Award for Best New International Act in 2024, said if she wins these awards, she plans to use the recognition to amplify her influence in the music and dance industry by continuing to promote African culture and talent on a global scale.
“I want to create more opportunities for collaboration with other artists, especially emerging talents. Additionally, I aim to engage in mentorship programmes to support young dancers and musicians, helping them develop their skills and find their voices,” she said.
Makhadzi said the recognition would be a steppingstone to inspire even more positive change and growth within the community.
