TEHILLAH Africa, a gospel choir from Maseru, Lesotho, is thankful for the recognition received from Mzansi.
The choir has been nominated for three prestigious awards in South Africa:
South African Gospel Recognition Awards for Best International Music. Crown Gospel Music Awards for Best of Africa. Mpumalanga Gospel Music Awards for Best of Africa and Song of the Year. Rethabile Maphoi, the managing director of Afro Media, which owns Tehillah Africa, expressed joy to the Daily Sun.
“Tehillah Africa was formed in 2009 from a church in Maseru, Lesotho, called Love House Worship Centre. It includes members from various churches. It was founded by pastor Mosheng Mapoyi, who later established Afro Media, which now owns the choir,” Rethabile said.
She said that managing the choir, which now has 23 members, has been a rewarding journey.
“It’s been a rollercoaster. In 2009, we started performing in churches and were fairly small. We recorded our first album, Thula o Mamele, in 2010 and have since released two more projects: Tehillah Africa Volume 2 and Volume 3,” she said.

Their new single, U ea Halalela, recently won Song of the Year at the Lesotho 1st Annual Melodius Music Awards.
That same song has earned them three nominations in Mzansi.
“Winning Song of the Year was unbelievable. To have a gospel song nominated in that category is amazing, and winning is even greater. It’s all because of God. I’m in awe of His grace and favour over us,” Rethabile said.
She emphasised the significance of being nominated outside their country.
“It’s huge, humbling, and unbelievable. I have mixed emotions about it. The South African music industry is much larger than ours and being recognised means a lot. The nomination alone is a win for us.
“We’re grateful to the industry for this opportunity and for opening doors. It means a lot. We hope it’ll pave the way for other artists in Lesotho. We have much talent and much to offer. We also hope to bring a unique flair of Lesotho into the industry,” said Rethabile.
