King Misuzulu’s wedding with his third wife, Queen Ntokozo Mayisela, has been cancelled.

KING Misuzulu calls off his upcoming controversial wedding and revokes all benefits for his future wife.

He said it was because it was beyond the control of the royal house. 

The king was scheduled to marry his third wife, Nomzamo Myeni.  

Their traditional wedding was set to occur at KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace on Sunday, 26 January. 

After the date of the wedding was announced, the king faced controversy, which led to his first wife, queen Ntokozo Mayisela, rushing to court to seek an interdict. 

Queen Ntokozo Mayisela said they are married in a civil marriage, and the king can’t marry another queen while their marriage still exists. 

The urgent application for queen kaMayisela to interdict the king is set to be heard at Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday, 20 January, but the king has moved quickly to call off his wedding a day before the court judgment.

In the letter dated 18 January 2025 from the king to the KZN office of the premier director general, Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize, the king notified her that he is calling off his upcoming wedding. The king also revoked all benefits and bodyguards for his future wife, queen Nomzamo Myeni. “I write to formally instruct the immediate withdrawal of all benefits and security details previously assigned to Ms Nomzamo Myeni. “Due to reasons beyond the control of the royal house, the traditional wedding ceremonies involving Ms Myeni have been called off. As a result, it has become necessary to terminate all associated arrangements,” the king said. The king instructed that the withdrawal of benefits must take effect immediately. He said any benefits, allowances, privileges and security details assigned to her must be revoked by 11am on Sunday, 19 January. On Saturday, 18 January, King Misuzulu also shocked many in the royal family by firing his spokesman, Prince Simphiwe Zulu for not being available and providing official comments to the media. In the letter from the king to Prince Simphiwe dated 18 January, the king said: “Numerous complaints have been received from various media houses regarding your unavailability to provide timely and accurate official comments. The king also revoked all benefits and bodyguards for his future wife, queen Nomzamo Myeni.

“Due to reasons beyond the control of the royal house, the traditional wedding ceremonies involving Ms Myeni have been called off. As a result, it has become necessary to terminate all associated arrangements,” the king said. 

The king instructed that the withdrawal of benefits must take effect immediately.  

He said any benefits, allowances, privileges and security details assigned to her must be revoked by 11am on Sunday, 19 January. 

King Misuzulu’s wedding, scheduled for January, faced scrutiny from Shembe Church members.  

They accused him of violating church rules, as members are not permitted to hold any ceremonies in January, which is exclusively reserved for royal pilgrimage. 

King Misuzulu is a baptised member of the church. 

On Saturday, 18 January, King Misuzulu also shocked many in the royal family by firing his spokesman, Prince Simphiwe Zulu for not being available and providing official comments to the media. 

In the letter from the king to Prince Simphiwe dated 18 January, the king said: “Numerous complaints have been received from various media houses regarding your unavailability to provide timely and accurate official comments. This persistent issue has led to one-sided and often unfactual public reports, tarnishing the reputation of the Zulu royal house and myself as the king.” 

Prince Simphiwe was unavailable to comment. 

The KZN office of the premier has yet to comment.
