Zuma-Sambudla’s court appearance relates to the 2021 July Unrest, during which she vocally supported actions surrounding her father, Jacob Zuma’s arrest.
From 9 to 17 July 2021, South Africa experienced a significant violent protest that led to widespread looting and destruction of shops, businesses, and public facilities, primarily in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng.
This period of unrest resulted in over 350 deaths and was allegedly ignited by former President Zuma’s arrest and imprisonment.
The Constitutional Court had sentenced Zuma to 15 months for defying an order to comply with the summons from the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture.
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla was notably vocal on X, expressing support for the riots. An inquiry by the South African Human Rights Commission concluded that the violent protests were not directly linked to Zuma’s arrest.
