Wanter Dlamini was killed for a R80 000 insurance policy payout.

AN ACCUSED in the insurance murder case has requested the Mbombela High Court to fast track the trial.

This after Judge Brian Mashile postponed the trial to 12 May 2025.

Steen Mashikeng (42) and his two co-accused are facing murder, rape, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice charges.

The accused was arrested in 2020 following the murder of Wanter Dlamini (62).

It’s alleged that in January 2020 Nonhlanhla Mthunywa, who is Bathabile Mthunywa’s sister, invited her mum, Wanter to her house and conspired to kill her with the aim of claiming an R80 000 insurance policy that was taken in the deceased’s name in 2019.

It’s alleged that Ntombizodwa Ndwandwa (43), Steen Mashikeng (41) and Moses Mosemba (41), who has since died, allegedly assaulted and kidnapped her.

Mashikeng allegedly raped Wanter while Nonhlanhla and Ndwandwa allegedly held her down.

Dlamini was later killed, and her body allegedly disposed by Bathabile and was found dumped in the bushes a few days later.

Nonhlanhla was sentenced to 20 years in January this year after she entered into a plea agreement with the state.

Addressing the court, Mashikeng told Judge Mashile postponing the matter will not change anything.

“I have a request, I ask that the trial proceed as I’ve been in custody for quite a long time, and don’t see any difference,” he said.

Judge Mashile responded by saying a date has been secured for 12 May 2025.

“Unfortunately, it can’t proceed today because this court has other matters and there’s a matter that has been a priority and is starting tomorrow,” he said.
