MEN are encouraged to name and shame cops who turn them into a laughingstock when they report abuse by their female partners.

This was discussed at a Men’s Dialogue in Moletji Blood River, Limpopo, on Wednesday, 20 November.

The event, held one day after International Men’s Day, was themed “Men’s health champions”.

Over 100 men attended the dialogue to break the silence and speak out about issues at work, home, or personal life.

Andries Mokgolo (55) said: “We suffer in silence. It’s hard for us to report abuse freely without being victimised by police. We no longer feel like real men in our homes.”

Alcohol abuse was noted as a dire consequence of these challenges.

“Our voices are not heard. Taba ya gore monna o llela teng (the issue of ‘men don’t cry’) must end,” Andries said.

Sergeant Ernest Maluleke from Blood River Police supports men in reporting abusive officers.

“Name and shame those cops who mock you,” he said.

Albert Masingi, Chief Director of Limpopo Chaplaincy, highlighted their role in addressing gender-based violence and related issues.
