Bulelani is an award-winning entrepreneur and business coach.

He is a master of business coaching and a notable advocate for ‘buy local’ initiatives.

Township entrepreneurship is a personal passion project of his and now with all the belts under his name, it’s safe to call him the business mentor anyone would love to have.

The award winning Bulelani Balabala also recently launched the township economy summit and awards, which was a success.

As small and medium business also prepare to close for December holidays, he recommends that entrepreneurs review and repackage their businesses for 2025 success.

Below are his top 10 hacks to successful entrepreneurship:

1. Get Things Done – execution is everything

Every dream and aspiration hinges on execution. Talk is cheap but what sets you apart as an entrepreneur is also how you execute your plan. One constant things I draw inspiration from is that everywhere you go eKasi, people are trading.

2. Solve a real problem

The first step to tackling entrepreneurship is identifying a customer problem that needs a resolution. You need to be fixated with solving the customer problem. In this stage, market research is crucial.

3. Build relationships

Just as it takes a community to raise a child, so is the case with a business. You need to have a community of like minded people who believe in you enough to uplift and invest in it. It is imperative for you to have as many of the right people on the taxi as possible even if it means losing out at first.

4. Stay consistent

How you start is how you must continue and ultimately finish. The pace of your business is determined from the onset and as soon as this is out of the way, the only work that’s left is staying consistent in it. Staying consistent as your business grows will require you to be clear on your vision, objective and values.

5. Learn continuously

Never stop learning. Times change, trends evolve, and business models develop. Commit to being a perpetual student because no one ever knows too much. When you learn, you open yourself to new information that could nurture your growth and allow you to explore different strategies in your day-to-day business operations.

6. Manage your finances

The rule to know and abide to is to keep your personal finances from your business’ finances. This allows you to keep track of the success of your business, separate from your own. Whenever you hit rock bottom, your business won’t have to suffer the consequences and vice versa. Analyse your monthly spending so that you constantly optimise your expenses. Cashflow is king in business.

7. Embrace failure

It wouldn’t be success if it didn’t have hiccups and bumps along the way. No one is expecting you to have it all figured out and so as you learn and grow, you will make mistakes and fail. Give yourself grace, embrace the mistakes and don’t sulk over them longer than necessary. Instead, be quick to correct and try again.

8. Leverage technology

Technology is a business enabler for growth and efficiency. Technology can help you digitise your business processes and systems. Initially in business, you will be the only one doing most of the work, if you can delegate some work to technology, do so and have a breeze. Work smart, not hard.

9. Adapt or Die

Be open to being moulded by your business and its development while keeping a close eye on the market trends. Don’t reject the exploration of new ideas, allow your business to explore new ways of doing things. Don’t get too comfortable, stay hungry and stay innovative.

10. Results Matter

Being results driven isn’t just a quality, it’s a hack to life in general but most importantly, to entrepreneurship. You owe it to yourself to see what was a mere idea turn into a tangible product and service. Prove to yourself that it’s possible and watch everyone around you believe in your business a lot more than you imagined.
