THERE was heavy police presence in Inanda, Durban.
This was because of the funeral of a gang leader that was held at Phoenix hall on Saturday, 8 February.
Mnqobi Nzimande (24), who was the leader of the notorious Inanda West Gang, was killed in a shoot-out with cops in Verulam on 30 January along with his accomplice. Mnqobi, who was feared by Inanda residents, was linked to 20 cases and had allegedly killed more than 10 people.
Before his funeral, other gang members allegedly said they would make life difficult for Inanda residents as they’ve lost their leader.
This sparked fear among residents, who then pleaded the with cops to be visible throughout the weekend.
Mnqobi Nzimande was laid to rest on Saturday, 8 February.

One of the residents told Daily Sun that some of the gang members had told them that they’ll make sure that there’s chaos during their leader’s funeral.
“We then reported to the cops and on Friday we saw huge turnout of police. They were seen everywhere, doing stop and searches. We were then relieved. Mnqobi had terrorised us in our area. He and his gang members made our lives a living hell. They robbed, raped, stole and killed people,” she said.
Another resident said cops should stay in Inanda longer because if these gang members see that they’re no loger there, they’ll continue terrorising kasi people.
Another resident said cops should find a way to end this West Gang.
“This gang recruit young boys from as young as nine years old. They teach them how to rob people, steal and shoot. Until the West Gang is finally dealth with, we will keep hearing about their evil deeds in our area,” he said.
Most residents were happy about Mnqobi’s death but surprisingly a lot of them attended his funeral.
