HUNDREDS of Eskom prepaid customers wait in line to upgrade meters.

The customers woke up early on Saturday, 23 November to queue at various Eskom vending sites, with some saying they woke up as early as 3am to be first in the queue.

The desperate customers are rushing the Sunday, 24 November deadline, but luck is on their side as Eskom has extended the deadline to beyond 24 November.

But the catch is customers must purchase new electricity tokens by the end of Sunday, 24 November to activate the KRN2 mode.

Households that are affected are those that have not been buying electricity or zero buyers.

Eskom spokeswoman Daphney Mokoena said the technological breakthrough has enabled Eskom to pre-create Key Change Tokens (KCT) on its online vending system.

“Zero buyers in this situation need to go to their legal vending sites with their meter numbers to buy electricity,” said Mokoena.

Eskom said the vast majority of their buying customers have completed the change from KRN1 to KRN2.
