A case against five suspects linked to spiking and murder incidents along the N1 road near Bela Bela in Limpopo has been postponed by the Bela Bela Magistrates Court to 19 December 2024 and 13 January 2025.

A CASE against five suspects linked to spiking and murder incidents along the N1 road near Bela Bela has been postponed to Thursday, 19 December.

Accused one, Quinton Alberto Simango, and accused two, Khumalo Khoza, are to make formal bail applications.

The other accused, Tsakarai Wedzerai, John Moyo, and Brighton Zacheche, have abandoned their bail applications.

The state postponed their case to Friday, 13 December for further investigations, including a forensic report and post-mortem results.

Simango, Khoza, Wedzerai, Moyo, and Zacheche are linked to a series of criminal activities, including murder and armed robberies along the N1 road near Bela Bela, Limpopo.

It’s reported the suspects allegedly spiked motorists’ cars and attacked them when their vehicles came to a halt. In another incident on 1 July 2024, a victim was shot dead.

Simango, Khumalo, Wedzerai, and Moyo face a charge of armed robbery from June 2024, while Khoza, Zacheche, and Moyo face charges of murder and robbery that occurred in July 2024.

The suspects appeared in the Bela Bela Magistrates Court on Monday, 9 December.

They also face other criminal charges related to armed robbery, which will be heard in the Brits and Temba Magistrates Court in the North West.

“The suspects were arrested by police in Brits and Temba, working jointly with Bela Bela police. They initially appeared before court in Temba. They were then brought to Bela Bela Police Station. An identification parade was held on Thursday, 5 December, and witnesses successfully identified the suspects as those who robbed them,” said police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba, who was present during the court session, called for the suspects to receive hefty sentences and be deported.

“We are here because the issue of spikes and murder of our motorists has been persisting in our country for many years. I find it difficult to understand exactly what South Africans did to our neighbouring countries for them to kill us in this terrible manner. I was told by the prosecution that there’s a possibility of additional charges of contravention of Immigration Act.

“I was told that the accused could be linked to more than eight murders. They must not get bail. They must receive hefty sentencing and be deported to their home countries,” said Mashaba.
