Dada’s sister Ntsiki said the Masilo and Ngene families would like to thank everyone who came through and offered their love and support.
“We thank Dada’s colleagues and the rest of the family for their support,” she said.
Her close friend and colleague, Tshepo Zasekhaya (31) from Alexandra, said he was heartbroken when he heard of Dada’s passing.
“Dada and I practically grew up together. We met in 1999 at the Dance Factory in Newtown, Joburg. She was a great dancer and a wonderful person. The whole group of us, who were studying there with her, was aspired to be like her,” said Tshepo.

He recalls how Dada was a shy person who only warmed up to people after getting to know them.
“She had this infectious laugh and was humble. I’m going to miss her a lot,” he said.
Tshepo said Dada was like a mentor to him, sharing a lot of wisdom and always encouraged and offered to hear his future goals.
“At the time of her death, she was working on her next project, and we had just returned from touring and showcasing her last body of work, Hamlet, in Europe, including countries such as Austria and Germany. I felt like the project still had more to offer.”

Tshepo said Dada’s legacy will continue through the work she left behind.
He also revealed that he has plans to work on his own solo body of work in the future.
“I’m going to need sponsors, a team of people to realise that, but I know it’s possible,” he said.
