COUNCILLOR Novina Pillay is happy to return to the DA after dumping ActionSA.
The councillor, warmly welcomed by DA members in Tshwane, told Daily Sun she parted ways with the DA due to personal reasons, as she was going through a challenging phase.
“Leaving the DA wasn’t a political reason. I had some personal problems,” Pillay said.
She said after dealing with her problems, she chose not to return to the DA as she thought there was hope in ActionSA, based on how they portrayed themselves.
“It seems there’s hope for South Africans, a new party. Things they said were nice, but with the people who came into the party, things started changing.
“What made me angry with ActionSA was that I was sidelined by my own caucus. I was angry for over a year,” she said.

However, Pillay noted that she had previously invited ActionSA leadership to Eersterust in Tshwane, with the aim to address and resolve issues, but they never showed up.
She said she mentioned it to the leadership a few times, but it was never attended to.
“As a politician, I want to see people’s lives being made easy and see people’s struggles minimised.”
Pillay further said she is not seeking a position in the DA, as she’s content serving as a councillor.
She said she wants to be with the community, feel its pain, and know what they’re going through.
“I love being with the people. That’s my passion. I hope I’ll be able to serve them through the DA,” Pillay said.
