COPS arrest wanted man.

The police in KZN have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old woman, who was kidnapped on 25 December 2024.

The man arrested on Saturday morning, 4 January.

The woman was last seen leaving a restaurant in Umhlanga with a man in the early hours of 25 December 2024 and a case of kidnapping was opened when she did not return home.

Police spokesman, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said a thorough police investigation uncovered the man’s identity.

“During the investigation, it was discovered that the man, who was her manager at work, took her to his home at Amaotana area in Inanda. The two reportedly had an altercation and the man allegedly strangled her to death and buried her body in his yard,” he said.

The man is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday, 6 January on charges of kidnapping, murder and defeating the ends of justice.

Meanwhile, the Limpopo police have nabbed 669 zama zamas during the festive season.

Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe praised members of Operation Vala Umgodi for their commitment and dedication to ensure illegal mining is eradicated.

She said police are making sure more boots are on the ground to deal harshly with criminal acts in mining areas.

The suspects were arrested for crimes such as illegal mining, possession of unlicenced firearms, ammunition, contravention of the Immigration Act, possession and dealing in drugs, possession of suspected stolen vehicles, possession of counterfeit goods, assault and nine deportations across Limpopo from 1 December 2024.

Police confiscated seven firearms, 38 live ammunitions, three magazines and nine vehicles.

The operation was a joint effort involving Home Affairs, the South African National Defence Force and the Department of Minerals and Energy.

“The aim is to ensure stability and safety prevail in the mining environments throughout the province of Limpopo,” said Hadebe.

She added that illegal mining is a crime and residents must continue to give the police information by contacting CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
