South Africa’s beauty scene is in for a treat with top tips from London-based makeup content creator Uche Natori.

The base queen – which she is so affectionately known for due to her full glam looks and expertly blended foundation – was in the country to attempt the biggest ever makeup masterclass with L’Oréal Paris South Africa.

Uche is in her winning era.

The award-winning beauty influencer, alongside iconic media personality Bonang Matheba, broke the Guinness World Record for the biggest makeup masterclass with 440 attendees taking part in the class held in Midrand, Johannesburg.

What makeup trends would you like to take over into 2025?

What I would love to take over, which I’ve been doing quite a lot is the – I call them quick beats. But they still look quite glam. I think I start with the undereye and you kind of build from the undereye down. So, you do undereye contour then you clean up with foundation and then you do the powders.

Way quicker and actually if you use full coverage products, it still looks very delicious.

And which ones should we leave in 2024?

I think I’ll have to say clean girl because I’m the complete opposite of clean girl, I’m like, ‘Put the makeup on!’

I think people [should] not necessarily leave behind but I think I would love to see more people experimenting with makeup more.

What are some makeup products you wouldn’t leave the house without?

I actually don’t, I’m notoriously known for not leaving the house with makeup. So, how I leave the house is how I leave the house. But if I want to leave the house with makeup, I would definitely take a powder puff and a full coverage or a powder with a good decent amount of coverage just to top up around my undereye and around my mouth.

And probably also a cute little blush just to top up blush. And lip gloss, obviously … and a little setting spray.

What is your go-to colour for the season?

I’m a pink girlie. Like different shades of pink, whether it’s like more of a deeper pinks or more of like – I love a baby pink on the cheeks, I love a baby pink. And your mauve as well mixed into a baby pink is just delicious.

What magic tips can you give beauty influencers to elevate their content?

I feel like if you want to, I don’t want to say really guarantee success, but if you approach it with more of an analytical mind, you are more likely to remain in it for a lot longer. And by analytical, I mean actually looking at what people respond to, what kind of videos people like and looking at what kind of videos you want to produce.

You can tell I’m a yapper, I like to yap … If you watch the experts, they’ll tell you do a minute video or a minute-30 and use a trending sound but, with me, my audience love it when I just get on there and I just yap about literally nothing and then we kind of talk about the makeup as well.

So, I think you need to find something that works really well with you and keep going at it and looking at your analytics and look at what works well.
