THE ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape, has urged the provincial leadership to dissolve the regional executive committee (REC).

The league claimed that the REC, led by Babalwa Lobishe, has been plagued by internal factional fights, causing division within the organisation.

ANCYL spokesman Ntsika Mnyimba said that the infighting affected the party’s performance in the national and provincial elections in May, resulting in poor polling outcomes in a region that is traditionally a base for the ANC.

“The recent national and provincial elections outcome marks a political setback and, most importantly, represents a trust deficit and disconnect between the ANC REC under Babalwa Lobishe and the community of Nelson Mandela Bay,” he said.

Mnyimba said the ANCYL in the region believes the outgoing ANC REC is too weak to advance the ideals of rebuilding and renewal per the resolution of the 55th ANC national congress.

He claimed that Lobishe and other office bearers have attacked legitimate and democratic ANCYL leadership.

Mnyimba said she has installed a “rebel group” as an alternative to the current leadership.

“As ANCYL, we boldly call upon the ANC provincial collective to dissolve the current ANC REC and set up a new RTT (regional task team) with a calibre of cadres possessing proven political credentials, unquestionable experience, high levels of commitment, humility, and a willingness to serve the ANC and the community in line with its vision of the NDR,” he said.

He also claimed that Lobishe has unilaterally directed security personnel at Florence Matomela House to prevent the ANCYL from using the ANC’s political precinct while allowing a rival faction to damage the integrity and image of the ANCYL.

Daily Sun’s attempts to get Lobishe’s comments were unsuccessful as her phone rang unanswered, and she didn’t respond to a message sent to her.

Her comment will be added when received.
