THE state is seeking to deny bail to the wife of the slain EMPD officer, Banele Skosana. Â
Sibongile Dlamini (42), who is arguing for her release through her lawyer, claims she desires justice for her husband, claiming her non-involvement in his death.Â
Last week, her lawyers submitted affidavits supporting her bail application, emphasising her role as the caregiver for her 15-year-old disabled son. Â
However, the state requested a postponement to verify the son’s disability claims.Â
Contradicting her statement, the state argued that Sibongile’s son has been living with her mother in Tsakane since being discharged from the hospital, challenging her assertion of caregiving.Â
The boy was injured in a car accident that also claimed the life of Sibongile’s former husband. Â

The defence provided an occupational therapist’s report to support the son’s disability claim.Â
While Sibongile was denied bail, accused number 1, Ntliziyozabantu Magwanyana, opted to abandon bail. The case has been postponed to Monday, 10 March.Â
Additionally, the state submitted an affidavit from the investigating officer detailing court events on the day EMPD officer Banele was killed. Â
The state presented evidence suggesting the officer faced threats and was poisoned, subsequently spending days at N17 Hospital. Â
Upon release, he allegedly instructed his wife to leave their Kwa-Thema residence.Â
The state argued that granting Sibongile bail could lead to public disorder and that she might interfere with state witnesses.Â
