A man’s decomposed body has been found in Winterveld.
COPS need help to identify a body.
Tshwane families who have reported a missing person are urged to come forward.
This after a decomposed body was found in a wheelbarrow with the hands tied with wire in a plastic bag. The gruesome discovery was made by passers-by returning from work.
A photo of the body circulated on social media with an inaccurate description, claiming the body was found without a head and legs.
But Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said the body was found intact.
“SAPS members received a complaint of a murder at stand number 1379 Monyela in Winterveld. Upon investigation, we found an unknown decomposed body of a male person. Next to the corpse was a green wheelbarrow. The hands and legs were tied with wire. The victim wore a blue jersey and blue raincoat,” said Masondo.
He said residents in the area did not recognise the victim and investigations are still ongoing. The body was taken to the Ga-Rankuwa mortuary in Tshwane and a case of murder has been opened for investigation.
Resident Rosinah Mmapelegi expressed her fear of approaching the body due to its strong odour.
“I just heard community members say the body didn’t have a head and legs and that they could tell it was a man,” she said.
Daily Sun visited the area on Monday, January 27 and found that residents had mobilised themselves to cut the overgrown weeds and grass assisted by Ward 22 Councillor Chris Masiya. Other residents were seen collecting woods to make fire.

Masiya said the ward he leads is privately owned, known as Monyela Plot, and that following the discovery of the body, the ward leadership confronted the family as the land had been neglected for an extended period.
“The plot owner acknowledged the challenges and agreed that the area harbours criminals due to the tall trees and forest bushes. A meeting has been arranged for this coming weekend for the landowners to decide how they’ll use the land for the benefit of the community,” said Masiya.
The community members said that they lodged multiple complaints with the landowners about the area being a hotspot for crime, but their concerns allegedly fell on deaf ears.
Resident Maja Serobe expressed frustration, stating that the area is plagued by robberies, break-ins, cable theft and multiple rape incidents.
“People are robbed day in and day out while passing through. Pupils have been raped and now a corpse was found on the same land we’ve been complaining about,” said Maja.
The residents demanded action within a week and said failure to act would result in shacks being erected on the land.
