Liverpool confident about signing 23-goal striker

Premier League leaders Liverpool face Merseyside rivals Everton when the competition resumes at the start of April.

The Reds have already established a 12-point lead at the top of the standings, but head coach Arne Slot will want to see his side continue their strong form and move a step closer to a second Premier League title in the club’s history.

Everton have improved of late, though, and held the Reds to a draw at Goodison Park back in February.

Ahead of the game, it has emerged that Liverpool are confident about their chances of signing one of the players of the season so far.

According to TBR Football, the league leaders believe that they can pull off a deal to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Isak, 25, is enjoying a sensational season for the Magpies, netting 23 goals in 33 games so far across all competitions.

His last goal proved to be the winner as Newcastle defeated Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, ending a wait of more than 70 years for a domestic trophy.

Isak’s impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed, though, and the report claims that Liverpool have identified him as a prime target as they look to bolster Slot’s attacking options.

The Swede joined Newcastle from Spanish side Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022 and has since scored 58 goals in 100 games for the North East giants.

He is under contract with Newcastle until the end of the 2027/28 season, but the report claims that the Reds have contacted the player’s representatives with a view to potential agreeing a deal.

Newcastle are said to value the Sweden international at as much as £120 million and, while the report claims that Liverpool would be willing to break their club record signing to land Isak, it is unclear whether or not the Merseyside outfit would spend that much on one player.

Liverpool will also face fierce competition from other clubs, including Arsenal, in the race to sign Isak.
