Jennifer Love Hewitt Got Super Candid About Aging in the Caption of Her No-Makeup Birthday Selfie

9-1-1 star Jennifer Love Hewitt opened up about the (sur)reality of aging on Instagram, penning a long reflection on the occasion of her 46th birthday along with makeup- and filter-free selfies. Like Valerie Bertinelli or Pamela Anderson, she’s growing out of insecurity and into herself.

“46 years old. No make up and no filter…It’s been a hard start to the year,” the I Know What You Did Last Summer actor wrote. Not sure if she means a hard start to the year of life or the calendar year—or both—but we do know Hewitt was among many Californians impacted by the recent spate of fires.

She continued, “I don’t quite feel myself. But yet I feel like maybe this is all to bring me closer to who I am meant to be. In this feeling of loss and being lost I have found a strange calm and letting go that doesn’t usually come easy to me.”

Mindful of her good fortune, Hewitt added, “I know that I have the greatest kids and husband ever. My brother’s hugs heal me. I feel my mom with me everyday. My friends make me want to be a better human daily. I have all the things I really need and long truly for nothing other than joyful moments, continuing in the career I love, more time with friends, [and] delicious food.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt also acknowledged that everywhere, but especially in her industry, things do not always get better as women get older. “I have experienced and seen how the world can be cruel to women as they age and yet seen the women I admire become happier, sexier, and more powerful with every added number,” she confessed. “I am ready to give love today to the younger me and the older me because they are my ride or die’s. Sending love to all and cheers to 46! ❤️”

Of course, it’s not only women in their forties who reflect on aging and the wisdom that comes along with it. On TikTok, Gen Z is owning their past mistakes and comforting their past selves with the “I met my younger self for coffee” trend. Back in my day, we had the “it gets better” campaign. May we all keep evolving, and happy birthday, JLoHew!
