Infrastructure theft | Screws tightening on Buffalo City scrapyards

1 min

EAST LONDON – It’s Operation Clampdown on unscrupulous scrapyard dealers.

That’s the message from the Buffalo City Metro, which has been raiding businesses suspected of buying property stolen from the municipality and parastatals.

Police say they have uncovered many suspicious dealings this week.

Several businesses were handed fines for operating illegally, while some were shut down.

The District Police Commissioner in the Buffalo City Metro says they are warning businesses against falling into the trap of operating on the wrong side of the law.

Police expect to raid around 30 business premises in East London and Qonce by the end of the week, with more raids planned next month.

eNCA’s Ronald Masinda has the details.
