STILFONTEIN – An unknown number of illegal miners remain underground in Stilfontein.
They continue to send up letters pleading for food and medication and for the swift rescue of the sick.

On Wednesday, the bodies of four dead zama zamas were brought to the surface.
Meanwhile, the South African National Civics Organisation is warning that more illegal miners will die underground unless government steps in to help them.
