The police say no blast occurred, a fact verified during a recent site inspection by explosives experts.

The claim seems to come from a statement by the General Industries Workers Union of South Africa.

It alleges police bombed Shaft 10, leaving miners trapped or dead.

But, government says all miners were recovered from Shaft 11, located two kilometres away.
