JOHANNESBURG – As the end of year beckons, holidaymakers will be heading to the coast in their numbers.

But many South African beaches leave a lot to be desired.

There have been concerns over  issue of the high levels of E-coli in the beaches.

Efforts by local communities clean them up and run conservation awareness campaigns have been underway, however there is still a lot of work needed to protect collective natural treasures.

Environmental Activist, Pete Graham, and Buffalo City Infrastructure Services MMC, Yomelela Tyali unpacked this to eNCA.

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town councillor, Paul Jacobson, says the city’s beaches still have high levels of E-Coli.

He alleged that people are falling after swimming at the beaches.

In East London ringing sea levels and coastal decay have threatened beaches.
