JOHANNESBURG – The world recently marked Cochlear Implant Day.
The first surgical implant to restore hearing was done in 1992.
But, over three decades later, finance remains a barrier to access.
The cost of a cochlear implant is around R250,000.
And then there’s upgrades every three years at a further cost of R150,000.
That’s not counting the cost of rehabilitation and lack of resources at public facilities.
Now, Non-Profit Organisation, Hearo, is offering some help.
We find out more from its founder, Esri Rossouw.
