Durban was once again hit by Level 5 heavy rain on Sunday, 2 March.
As the rain kept pouring, several roads became flooded, making driving difficult. The Wentworth Cemetery was also affected, with tombstones damaged.
A man at Quarry Road was seen sitting on top of his flooded car, doing nothing as the rain continued to fall. This happened just a few days after six people died in the heavy rain that struck Lamontville, Durban.

A Lamontville resident, Ntokozo Mkhize, from an area where people died earlier in the week, said she was shocked when the rain began.
“We are still traumatized. Just a few days ago, people died in this rain, and today it’s back again. I’m scared,” she said.
However, the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has activated disaster management teams across the province, putting them on high alert.
This follows a Level 5 weather warning issued by the South African Weather Service for severe thunderstorms expected to impact the uMdoni, eThekwini, uMkhambathini, Ray Nkonyeni, and uMzumbe municipalities today, 2 March.
The severe weather warning comes from predicted heavy rainfall, which poses a significant risk of widespread flooding.
Initial reports indicate road infrastructure in and around the eThekwini metro is already experiencing flooding, highlighting the situation’s severity.
The South African Weather Service issued this urgent alert due to the anticipated rainfall intensity and potential disruption.

Cogta MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi urged residents in low-lying areas and near riverbanks to seek shelter on higher ground immediately. Residents are also advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors if possible.
“We are deeply concerned about the potential impact of these severe thunderstorms and the associated flooding. The province has already experienced tragic losses of life due to recent weather conditions.
“The safety of our communities is our utmost priority. We implore all residents to heed this warning and take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their families,” said Buthelezi.
He said that Disaster Management teams throughout the province are on high alert and are actively monitoring flood-prone areas.
“These teams are prepared to respond to emergencies and provide immediate assistance as required,” he said.
Amongst the key safety recommendations, he advised that residents should seek higher ground.
“If you live in a low-lying area, evacuate to higher ground immediately. Avoid travel and refrain from traveling unless absolutely necessary. Remain indoors and away from windows during thunderstorms. Stay informed about the latest weather updates from reputable sources,” he said.
He said the Department of Cogta will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
