Alex Pereira vs Oleksandr Usyk predicted by former world champion boxer: ‘It’s a mismatch’

British boxing legend Carl Froch has shared his thoughts on Alex Pereira potentially crossing over to the squared circle.

The UFC light heavyweight champion is set to defend his belt against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313 on March 8.

It’s arguably the toughest test of his MMA career, but people are already talking about what may be next.

Three-belt heavyweight boxing world champion Oleksandr Usyk recently called out Pereira for a ‘show fight’ as he shared his two-fight retirement plan after outpointing Tyson Fury for a second time in December.

‘The Cobra’ shared the ring with Andre Ward, Jean Pascal, Mikkel Kessler, and Georges Groves during an epic run in the sport that ended with him scoring a massive KO win in front of 80,000 people at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2014.

Now he’s a boxing commentator, who has developed a taste for MMA since calling time on his Hall of Fame career.

The 47-year-old gives Alex Pereira no chance of pulling off an upset in a potential boxing bout with Oleksandr Usyk.

“Last night, I watched Alex Pereira sparring on YouTube,” Froch said.

“He’s okay. He’s a little bit upright. Chin’s in the air a bit, but he’s a bit bolt-rigid. No head movement and quite basic. Usyk’s dealt with the best in the world, so Usyk against Pereira in a boxing match based on what I’ve seen of Periera [is a mismatch].

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s an absolute machine. What a guy. I’ve got nothing but praise for him in his discipline. Brilliant fighter. Like I said, one of the biggest names now in the UFC.

“Oleksandr Usyk against Pereira in a boxing ring? For me, it’s a mismatch, it’s not something I’d really wanna see.

“I’d probably like to see that in the cage, if I’m honest. But that’s just the fighter in me saying, ‘How good would one of the best in the boxing world do against somebody like Alex Periera, who is a top UFC fighter?’

“The answer to that question would probably be not very good. Alex Pereira would probably absolutely wipe him out.”

Alex Pereira called out Oleksandr Uysk first Usyk didn’t mention Pereira’s name out of nowhere – his call-out was in response to one from the UFC star

‘Poatan’ recently set his sights on a fight with Usyk during an appearance on Rampage Jackson‘s podcast.

“[Boxing] is something he really wants,” Coach Plinio Cruz translated for his star pupil. “But you know, he’s in a contract with the UFC – We know McGregor did it…

“He’s the champ so he’d like to fight a champ. So Oleksandr Usyk… He feels that he could do really good.”

Pereira calling out Usyk left fans in hysterics as they gave him no chance against the pound-for-pound best boxer on the planet.

Froch agrees with the consensus about the crossover fight, but both men want it so it could end up happening.
