JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s men’s hockey team claimed a historic bronze medal at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup in Croatia.

This is their best-ever showing at the event.

South Africa’s milestone was spearheaded by Mustapha Cassiem who was named player of the tournament.

Ama Stokke Stokke had to beat Belgium 6-5 to secure a podium finish, with Cassiem scoring a hattrick.

In total the 22-year-old scored 17 goals in Croatia over the past week. His international tally is now 118 goals in only 47 games.

In 2023 when the Indoor World Cup was hosted in South Africa, he was honoured with the Young Player of the Tournament prize.

Germany won the 2025 tournament following a penalty shootout win over Austria.
