Dr Sam Nujoma the founding president of Namibia has died.
CONDOLENCES pour for the founding president of Namibia, Dr Sam Nujoma.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed condolences to the government and people of Namibia on the passing of Nujoma.
Ramaphosa, through his spokesman, Vincent Magwenya, has extended his condolences to the founding first lady of the Republic of Namibia Kovambo Nujoma and the broader Nujoma and Kondombolo family.
He said Nujoma’s leadership of a free Namibia led the foundation for the solidarity and partnership South Africa shares with Namibia.
“South Africa is grateful for the extended lifetime with which Dr. Sam Nujoma was blessed, and South Africa will be forever grateful for how he dedicated the many decades of his life to serving his nation,” said Magwenya.
Nujoma died at the age of 95.
The former president died in a Windhoek hospital on Saturday, 8 February, after being hospitalised for medical observation and treatment due to ill health.

President Nangolo Mbumba says Nujoma was a great founding father who lived a long and consequential life during which he served the people of his beloved country.
The Southern Caucus Chairperson of the Pan-African Parliament Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has sent condolonces to the people of Namibia and the family of Dr Nujoma.
She said Dr Nujom was not only a towering figure in Namibia’s struggle for liberation but a beacon of resilience and pan-African solidarity.
“His unwavering commitment to freedom, justice, and self-determination guided Namibia out of the shadows of colonial oppression and apartheid into an era of sovereignty and dignity.
“As the first President of Namibia, he laid the foundation for a united, independent nation, championing African unity and the economic emancipation of our people.
“His passing shakes the very foundations of our continent, yet his legacy remains unshaken,” she said.
