CAPE TOWN – Congolese living in the Western Cape are pleading for the South African government and other African states to act as the war in the DRC wages on.
About 150 people took to the streets of Cape Town to deliver a memorandum to Parliament.
They want Rwandan President Paul Kagame sanctioned.
They want all African countries to shine the spotlight on the conflict in the DRC.
But mostly, they want Rwandan President Paul Kagame and his troops out of their country.
According to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, seven million people have been displaced in the DRC, with over a million seeking asylum outside its borders.
The protesters accused other countries’ leaders, including former President Thabo Mbeki, of turning a blind eye to the three-decades-long battle.Â
They handed a memorandum to the office of the National Assembly speaker.Â
All they can hope for now is that their requests will be heard.
