SOSHANGUVE residents are in shock after a man was found hanging from a tree.

His body was found in his shack, with a skipping rope tied around his neck.

Mysterious circumstances raise suspicionThe mysterious circumstances of this man’s death, who allegedly owed money to abomashonisa, have left the community puzzled, with his cause of death remaining questionable.

The man’s body was found at an informal settlement in Block Extension W, Jukulyn, a notorious area in Soshanguve, Tshwane known for its high crime rate on Monday, 3 February.

His disappearance without a trace had occurred just days earlier.

Community fear and concernsResident Michael Zikhali said the man was last seen on Friday, 31 January.

“We knew of the debts when his wife and kids left him just before the festive seasons because they felt threatened by the dangerous loan sharks.

“We all don’t know if it was an assassin or a suicide, and that’s what freaks us the most. We are no longer feeling safe as a community, especially because whenever we call cops for assistance, they take forever before coming to the area. Sometimes they come the following day,” he claimed.

A community patroller who works in the area during the night said that the community often gets cases of rape and that’s the first time something of this nature occurred.

“We must find ways to strategise new ways to prevent crime in our area. We will be having a community meeting on Friday, 7 February, to discuss the way forward and contribute condolence money to help the family of the deceased person with burial arrangements,” he said.

The patroller urged the community who might have more information or know what might have happened to come to their informal settlement’s office as they are working with the police to uncover the truth.

Ongoing investigationGauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi told Daily Sun that an inquest docket has been opened for further investigation after a 44-year-old man was found dead at a squatter camp in Soshanguve.

“No arrests have been made yet,” said Nevhuhulwi.
