This comes after Mthandeni SK won the Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka top ten with his hit song Gucci, featuring MaWhoo, during the 2024/25 crossover voted by the public.
On Friday, 24 January, Ukhozi FM management gave the 2024 VW Polo Vivo to Mthandeni at their offices in Durban.
Mthandeni, whose real name is Mthandeni Manqele (36) ad usually praises Jesus Christ in his work, surprised many when he arrived wearing Shembe church white attire. Holding a soccer ball in his hands, he indicated that he’s a leading figure in the maskandi music genre.

Ukhozi FM’s acting business manager, Busani Mthembu, said that the Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka top ten received 1,9 million votes overall, and Mthandeni’s song featuring MaWhoo won with 976 000 votes.

“That means the competition was successful. We thank the Ukhozi FM listeners and all artists who participated for their good behaviour. We also thank Black Technologies, our partners. We hope this year, the competition will be even bigger, with over three million votes,” he said.
Mthandeni SK gave praise to Christ and thanked everyone who voted for him.
“In everything I do, I preach unity because I love all people; they are important to me and are my bosses. My campaign encouraged Ukhozi FM listeners to vote to ensure fairness, and it helped me get many votes,” he said.

Mthandeni explained why he featured amapiano star MaWhoo in his song. He had a top five list of stars from other genres to choose from, and after voting with his team, MaWhoo came out on top.
Regarding his choice to wear the Shembe church attire, Umnazaretha, Mthandeni said he feels connected to the church’s founder, Prophet Isiah Shembe, who taught the Zulu people about the religion.
“The Shembe church is known for respect and good lessons. I encourage unity in all religions because I sing for everyone. I’ve accepted Jesus Christ as my saviour,” he said.
