Ndu Shezi says her mission is to discover Mzansi’s next big talent
FORMER Joyous Celebration singer Ndu Shezi wants to lend a helping hand.
The 35-year-old singer is looking for young artists to join a pop choir called We Are Vocal (WAV), with the hope of introducing them to the industry.
Ndu spoke to the Daily Sun about the creation of the choir and why they want to include young and talented musicians.
“WAV is a vocal agency that also comprises a 30-piece pop choir. We are a solutions-based company that caters to clients’ needs for events, productions, and performances that require vocals. The choir is made up of vibrant, incredibly talented youth who are also professionals in their own right as seasoned backing vocalists and artists.
“As someone who’s been a backing vocalist myself, I recognised the need for agency among singers and the music industry itself. I believe our contribution to any project, recording, or performance is paramount, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to the value placed on singers, and that needs to change,” she said.
The singer said she felt people need to hear young and fresh talent.

“Every now and then, a new wave of fresh talent emerges and takes the industry by storm. As a vocal director and choirmaster for artists like Zakes Bantwini, the late Riky Rick for Cotton Fest, AKA, Sjava, Dbn Gogo for KwaGogo, and so many more, this is just my contribution to making way and providing a platform for that emerging talent, the same way others did for me. As artists, musicians, and creatives who have been blessed with opportunities, we have a responsibility to leave the door open for those who are coming behind us and to impart the little knowledge we have. Otherwise, I don’t see how the industry will survive if we gatekeep and are selfish even with our gifts,” Ndu said.
She said they’re looking for people between the ages of 19 and 30 who are based in Joburg.
“If you also feel like you’re young at heart and believe in your dopeness, we don’t want to leave you behind. WAV auditions are open to South African and non-South African citizens. People must bring their valid South African IDs and passports.
“As I mentioned earlier, we are building a 30-piece pop choir, but I also have a great network of singers I’ve been working with, and I intend to maintain those relationships and find ways to expand and grow. So, there is no specific number of people we are limited to auditioning; the more, the merrier,” she said.
Ndu said the auditions will be held at Cedarwoods of Sandton, north of Joburg on 31 January 2025.
