EFF drags Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president to the Human Rights Commission court over his zama zama comments.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) plans to report City of Joburg MMC Kenny Kunene to the commission for his remarks regarding the slaughter and skinning of illegal miners.
The party said he is a former convict himself who stole money from the poor through fraud and Ponzi schemes.
The party said Kunene doesn’t have the moral authority to speak on what sanctions ought to be imposed on those alleged to have stolen Mzansi’s wealth.
EFF spokesman Leigh-Ann Mathys said Kunene’s comments which he made on X, “represent the lowest level of opportunism and are hallmarks of sadistic and pathological commitment to dehumanisation and an infatuation with genocide”.
“His comments are inspired by electoral opportunism, as despite scientific and objective evidence that their rhetoric on foreign nationals doesn’t lead to electoral success, he and his political party have committed themselves to using xenophobia as their political platform.”

She further noted that, considering the tragedy at Stilfontein Mine in North West, Kunene displays opportunism by attempting to exploit the social debate on immigration.
“Therefore, the EFF will report Kenny Kunene to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) for his reckless comments, as they’re a clear indication that he intends contesting electoral power in order to commit human rights violations and targeted killings and mutilations of human beings,” said Mathys.
“Furthermore, the EFF will approach the City of Joburg’s Ethics Committee to impose sanctions on Kunene, who serves as a councillor in the city and sits on the executive.”
Kunene responded to the Red Berets by saying he was unfazed by their action.
He pointed out that party leader Julius Malema has repeatedly demonstrated a preference for undocumented foreigners over South Africans.
He said his stance is clear and that undocumented foreigners must leave or be hanged.
“These illegal foreigners who are mining illegally, when they come out underground, they go rape, rob and kill South Africans.
“We’ve seen in the West Rand where they raped young girls who were trying to make a living, and this ‘Rra’Mamina’ Malema was nowhere to be seen.”
